The starting field is now complete. The young grandmaster Jonas Buhl Bjerre from Denmark will be the 8th player in this year’s tournament. GM Bjerre really showed his strength in the recently concluded European Championships. He ended up in 22nd place and thus qualified for the World Cup.

Bad news. Ex-world champion Anatoly Karpov has withdrawn from the tournament. The search for a replacement is ongoing.
